Alternate History: We start at the beginning; after Golbez came to be under Zemus's forces, he was granted power, more power than he'd gained on his own. With this new power he created for creatures, each based on one of the four crystals of light; earth (Milon), water (Kainazzo), wind (Valvalis), and fire (Rubicant). Each of the Elemental Fiends would be given a task, more or less along the lines of impeding Cecil and his friends from collecting the Crystals and saving the world at large. Valvalis's role was to await in the Tower of Zot. Of course, she was not simply to WAIT there and do nothing more; in time she'd be given her task of keeping watch over Cecil's lover, Rosa. To assist her, she was not only given hundreds of monsters to fill the floors of the tower, but the Magus Sisters, a trio whom would protect her.
Up until Rosa's capture, Valvalis had only known the company of the Magus Sisters, and that of monsters. By obvious contrast of appearance, she proffered the soft, feminine looks of the sisters, rather than those of the monsters, or even the large, heavily armored visage that Golbez was when he would appear to her. Rosa, the first (known) human she'd seen only furthered her preference, but her feminine favor would really be tipped in the scales upon meeting Kain. Though ordered to cooperate with him by Golbez, she simply felt there was something she didn't like about him. When Cecil and party returned Kain to his senses, and he battled against Valvalis alongside his friends, her hatred grew for him. Both traitor to Golbez (as far as she was concerned) and now the one man that could do her harm when no other could, she'd hold a grudge against him for as long as she'd live (and re-live.)
It was here, of course, that she was defeated by Cecil, Kain and friends, leaving her more or less in limbo. Zemus brought the Four Fiends back at the Tower of Bab-Il, and though as a group they were stronger, they were, again bested by the same tricks and spells used by Cecil and party. Once again Kain left a bad taste in her mouth having, again, lost to him and that damned Jumping ability of his.
AddendumEven before the beginning of Val's story we have Golbez. Golbez plays the largest factor in this AU in that rather than Zemus and the Creator giving life to the Elemental Archfiends, it is HE (Golbez) who creates them from a mix of his own power and that granted unto him by Zemus over time. Though Golbez is mostly driven by Zemus's will, he is not a man without feeling. While the Archfiends are his right hand at taking the crystals and aiding in the destruction of the world, they too are HIS creations, and are treated with care. These are what bring the lines of thanks and forgiveness from The After Years, and are the foundations for what would become Valvalis's sense of family that would be explored in her extended time in Luceti.
And this isn't saying Valvalis was the 'favorite' of the Archifiends, but she is the only one not sent out to perform a task. Rather, she's kept at their 'base' of the Tower of Zot where Rosa is captured, where we see a couple of cutscenes where Golbez berates Kain for his repeated failures in handling Crystal business and Cecil. With Milon and Kainazzo both felled at the hands of Cecil and party, it's not until after Golbez is wounded by Tellah that we see Valvalis at all, even when she's supposed to be watching Rosa. I presume that he is there protecting his minion, rather than letting her fight, and the same fate befall her that had the prior two. At any point he could have moved on to other tasks and simply left Valvalis to handle the not-trade of crystal for Rosa. Of course, Golbez pays for that by eating Meteo. Between Kain's "betrayal" of Golbez and his defeat, Valvalis arrives to take revenge upon them.
Unfortunately, Valvalis doesn't live long enough to actually explore this connection with Golbez until she's pulled into another world and another RP. It only barely plants the seeds of a sense of 'family' and a bond with Golbez, the person who created her and her Archfiend kin, as well as accepted them for what they became. One does not always get to control what their creations, their 'children' in a sense, look like. Val was the only one feminine in appearance, and the closest thing to looking entirely human, with Rubicant a close second. Much in the way that that Scarmiglione (Milon) thanks Golbez for accepting him in TAY, Golbez accepted all his creations as his own sort of family.
Though it doesn't appear to be much of a change during the course of the game itself, it greatly influenced the way that Valvalis changed afterward. When she met up with Golbez again at Luceti, they were able to have spend time as an actual family, rather than simply being a reformed warlock with no further use for his minion(s).
Game History: Valvalis died at the hands of Kain and party, then once again because Zemus thought it a good idea to put her corpse back to work. Two fights, two failures, and an endless black of sleep.
Until she woke up somewhere utterly unfamiliar. Under the impression that it was yet another attempt by her master Golbez, or his higher master to make her work once more, she sought out those who were her allies, but instead found herself in a completely different world... caged in a sense. Stripped of much of the devastating power she was created with, and grafted with a small pair of wings that would KILL her mere existence if she dared remove them, she was forced to live amongst those whom she was designed to destroy; humans.
But... that wasn't so bad actually... Much of the problem came with her not knowing what to do with herself. Forced to cooperate with others, and her powers rent down to that of a bad wind in a rainstorm or a passing dervish in a desert, she was more or less bored. Much of her time was spent listening to the troubles of others through the pages of a book used to communicate across great distances. It wasn't a task she wanted to undertake, but there was little else to be done.
Naturally, she found herself at the ire of many; as a creature, a construct that was meant to kill off any whom opposed her master(s), she mocked those whom were injured or killed by the strange, and seemingly random events that would occur inside her cage of a township. Curiously though, perhaps taking to them akin to her own minions, the Magus Sisters, Valvalis found herself becoming fond of children... or at least those physically younger to her. This was compounded by the fact that, more than once, she had been turned into a child herself.
Val went through several physical changes over time, that gradually led to mental changes as well. Amongst being turned into a child, she also had her gender swapped for a week, was turned into a man she hated the most (Kain Highwind), and haunted by the spirits of those she'd known who had died (the other 3 Elemental Fiends). "Experiments" they were called, and they happened frequently, affecting most everyone. Within months of her being trapped within this township, she'd come to realize that she'd have to change if she'd ever find anyone whom would sympathize with her when things became too intense, or inconvenient.
First, she apologized to those she knew from her world... many of them cared not to even listen, and one of which would never receive an apology; an everlasting grudge she'd hold with Kain until she would eventually leave. But with her conscience clear, apologies accepted or not, she was able to start making friends amongst those who would slowly come and go.
Eventually Valvalis would come to permanently adopt one of the town's children, Kirimi, whom looked up to her as a sister, rather than a mother figure. That figure in the girl's life would be Neliel, another woman who was similarly a sort of 'inhuman' like herself. About a year into their relationship, the man whom created Valvalis, Golbez, would appear. No longer controlled by Zemus, Golbez was free to do as he pleased, and was rather shocked at the kind of person that Val had become. In time, they'd move past the state of 'creator' and 'master' and step things up to a father/daughter relationship; one far more enjoyed when Val was turned into a child more than once after this. Val would also adopt another woman into her extended family, a woman even taller than her, a Spartan named Daisy. Though things between them at first were a one-sided flirt, they took to one another as kin given both of them were just as socially awkward as the other.
Unfortunately, in a world where misery and poor fortune was not only expected, but gauged, recorded, and forced upon the occupants again and again, the happy life and family Val had built up was slowly torn apart. It started with Kirimi being sent home... thinking something far worse of it, Val went on a rampage, unleashing all the power she could muster to begin destroying buildings until she got what she wanted. Sadly, she got neither the girl back, or an answer she wanted to hear. She was shoved into a week of isolation, stripped of senses and power until her sentence was served. Next followed her father, Golbez, returned to where he belonged, and soon Neliel behind him, neither to be seen again. However, it was during her grieving that she, too, was sent back to whence she came... which for her was simply the dark void of 'death' until something else would once again bring her back.
Personality: Val started off as a fairly selfish and destructive being. She had little concern for humans and their frequent crying about pain and death, as she was oft the cause before her arrival in Luceti. She treated their cries and complains like annoyances, citing that death and injury are far too common to continue complaining; basically telling them to shut up but with more verbal justification. She too had a significant fondness for women. She never questioned how that came to be, being a creature of magical construct, rather than one of birth, and thus not exposed to gender and sexuality in the same way a human might be. It was simply how she was, and aside Golbez, her creator, she spent more time around women than she did anyone else.
Alas the combination of the two contradict one another. Not caring for a humans complaints, and her desire to be around women, (and she had plenty of new ones to be around), the clashing ideals blew up on her face one too many times that she would have liked.
Just like anyone else, Valvalis suffered many experiences physically and mentally, and a number of them would leave a significant impact on her. Though many were just a mild inconvenience, several, such as having her very gender, age, and sexual interest altered, left an impact on her, more or less from a social perspective than a personal one. Val finally realized what she's been doing to others, and it began a change in a creature meant to destroy. She apologized to those from her world, of which there were many, yet only one forgave her. Who would truly forgive a woman who actively tried to kill them, repeatedly? She also took to a fondness for children, and began raising one of the community's many "orphans", simply because she'd been one herself and had nobody to turn to.
When her creator, Golbez, arrived, be developed a sense of family, as did he, due to her experiences and influence. Calling him her Father, rather than creator, as well as adopting an extended family of sisters as well as a long term lover. However, her true destructive nature was only suppressed, rather than completely removed. When the various nature of the "Experiments" took hold and caused harm to her family, or even the utterly random nature of bringing and taking people away, she's lost control more than once and laid waste to large portions of the community in her rampage.
Like the wind itself, she's very fickle. As simple as hearing a certain someone's voice, she can go from motherly and gentle, to a savage storm... But that'd just how much she hates Kain... and how much she loves her family. She's also very mischievous, and hasn't quite taken to the concept of monogamy. She'll flirt with nearly anyone, teenaged and older, but never reveal if she's being sincere, or simply looking to get a reaction because she knows not every girl is into women like her.
Third-Person Sample: After what felt like the longest time of moping in utter darkness, one of those existential 'nothingness' scenarios, the blonde fiend woke up with a start. For a moment she thought she'd returned to consciousness in the cage of a city she'd spent six years in. Much to her shock, and surprise, when a small ball of fluff and pom-pom greeted her and told her that this was not the city she was looking for, she scowled at first.
"Listen here fuzzy creature, do not toy with me. Can you guarantee this is NOT Luceti?" she asks, standing up only to finally discover she was cold, and as well as that, clothed. "Goodness is this what the cold feels like?" she shrieks as she wraps her arm around herself, for once not immediately discarding her clothing for the sake of comfort. Irritated by her conundrum of comfort, she listened to the Moogle's words about this world and what it was.
Though very hard to believe, this was at the least an improvement over the unruly confines and constant tearing away of possessions that was Luceti. "Well... I suppose this is satisfactory. Now, where am I to bed?" she says, taking the Moogle by the top of her head and pulling her against her chest. "Point the way." she says as she takes two steps to lift herself off the ground only to promptly stumble. And being most unused to clothing at all, she trips over her own robes, sending her down to her knees, nearly squashing the Moogle between herself and the floor.
"What is this... Tell me now. Why can I not fly?" she commands the fluffiness.
"You only have the powers of your job, not anything from back home."
"Well, return them. You can't honestly expect me to simply WALK everywhere, do you? I am the Fiend of Wind! I fly! On the wind!" she shouts down at the Moogle, whom she is now looming over, trapped on the ground under hear.
"I... I can't... it's not something I can do! I think one of the jobs will let you float b-but... It's out of my control lady."
Valvalis continues to scowl down at him, though it eventually turns to a pout. "Well... this isn't the first time I've had things stripped away from me. I'm sorry. Why don't you give me that and we'll call it even." Slowly she picks herself up from her hands and knees to simply sit on the ground and think about Luceti and the plethora of things she'd gained and lost there. Eventually she brings her knees up to bury her face into.
"Hey, are you okay? Lady? Miss?"

To those who came before me, hero or not,
I find that being selected as a Hero of Light to be utterly ironic. I'm far from such a thing, or, I was. Is there some selection process that I've not been told of or, is it just as random as the last world I was yanked into.
It is on that note that I actually wish to address everyone. I'm twice removed from the world I'm from, and since I doubt that those from my original world would be very excited to know I am now here, I ask if there are any about who know of a world called "Luceti". It is a terrible place that I'd rather not speak of, but I made some very important connections whilst I was there and, I would hope that I can find at least some manner of companion that I'm here now.
I'm sure I've a dozen more questions to ask but, having only just settled in, I'll take my time before I harass your pretty faces any more.
Sincerely,
Valvalis: Fiend of Wind (penned by Kukaze).

Probably more important than that is her ability to spin her indestructible hair around her body like a golden tornado, making her immune to any manner of attack that isn't a Dragoon 'Jump'ing on her.

Probably more important than that is her ability to spin her indestructible hair around her body like a golden tornado, making her immune to any manner of attack that isn't a Dragoon 'Jump'ing on her.
